Activities and sightseeing at Lake Como

Steep mountain giants, villas for film sets , and palazzi with magnificent parks gather tightly around the deepest lake in Europe. Medieval villages with crooked alleys and steep stairs exude Italian flair.

The best of Italy

The 46 km long Lake Como in northern Italy, with its picturesque landscape, offers experiences in nature  both on the mountain and on the lake. Everywhere, wonderful experiences are awaiting. In the summertime, the lake is ideal for swimming and water sports, and the mountains call for walkers and bikers. From the summit you are rewarded with a stunning panorama. In winter, the nearby ski areas in Valchiavenna beckon for day trips. The villas and gardens along the lake invite you to linger in the Italian atmosphere  at any time of the year, and excursions for shopping or culture in Milan or Bergamo make your stay a special experience.

Splash in Water

Water sports enthusiasts have plenty of fun on Lake Como. Bathing in the crystal clear water has to be part of every vacation agenda, as well as a motorboat ride: everyone who holds a car driver’s license is allowed to steer their own boat on the lake. Thus you can discover the area from the lake side in your own way . Especially in the northern parts of the lake, the south wind Breva offers the best conditions for sailors, windsurfers, and kitesurfers. Modern equipment is available for hire at numerous stations.

Climb Mountains

Fans of nature are amazed by the unique sunny landscape: the Bergamo Alps, with marked and well-maintained hiking trails, offer an incomparable mountain experience for young and old. Beginners may enjoy the flat Greenway del Lago, for example, while experienced hikers can climb the highest mountain, Monte Legnone (2610m). Countless cozy hiking huts provide culinary delights with Italian delicacies. Cyclists will get their heart’s desire: from flat round trips with the e-bike, downhill trails with the mountain bike, to challenging pass routes on the road bike, all is possible at Lake Como. The panorama from the peaks is incomparable and rewards any effort.

Experience La Dolce Vita

Azaleas, camelias, hydrangeas, and oleanders provide Mediterranean flair in numerous gardens, not only in Menaggio, Varenna, and Como. Centrally located in the lake is Bellagio, the inspiration for the hotel of the same name in Las Vergas. Baroque villas and cozy mountain villages invite you to stroll around the lake. Lake Como was enjoyed by the Romans and Empress Sissi as much as Konrad Adenauer, and is now appreciated by Hollywood stars such as George Clooney, Madonna, and other celebrities.

Enjoy luxury

Everyone who spends time at Lake Como will experience something of historical and modern luxury. This may start with your arrival: the most spectacular way to come to Lake Como and at the same time be enchanted by the magic of the area is to approach land by seaplane.

One of the most famous hotels in the world, the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, still exudes the wonderful aura of days gone by: enjoy the sunset over the wonderful delicacies of the menu in its restaurant La Terrazza with an evening view of Bellagio. Many guests indulge in the Serbelloni Spa and Beauty Farm in Bellagio. It is located in the historic building of the Grand Hotel, an oasis of peace.

The world’s finest boutiques, in Milan, are only about an hour’s drive from Lake Como. The one-of-a-kind shopping experience begins at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele: prestigious fashion houses such as Bulgari, Louis Vuitton, and Versace, and chic luxury hotels and fine restaurants, are lined up here. However, such a day also includes the sights of the city: the cathedral, La Scala, and the Castello Sforzesco.

Feel Snow

In Lombardy, you will be delighted by the 672 km of slopes and 216 ski lifts. Only 60 minutes from the villa is the entrance to the ski area Valchiavenna: 40 km of slopes and 13 lifts make snow-loving hearts beat faster! The funicular railway takes you to fantastic ski slopes at an altitude of 2948 m in just a few minutes. The lifts are usually open from November to April and invite you to wonderful ski days, with a sundowner at the lake.
